Narrow country roads can cause problems for regular sat navsThe trucker was making deliveries to farms in Saddleworth, Manchester when the 45ft lorry became wedged between the sides of a bridge on a tight bend.

Local resident Geoff Wood came across the truck while out walking and was told by the driver that his sat nav had directed him down a route primarily designed for carts and horses and thought he could get through.

Police were then called to Church Lane near the village of Uppermill, following reports that a large truck was unable to move at 8pm. The driver was eventually freed the following night.

The lorry had to be unloaded if there was any chance of reversing back up the steep hill. Local farmers brought in tractors to assist in removing the animal feed bags to lighten the lorry and give it a chance of breaking free.

The driver said “it was a nice part of the countryside, but didn’t really wish spending a second night in his truck.
